Job/Role Summary

My name is Donna Anderson and for the past 13 years I have been employed by the Northern Health and Social Care Trust (NHSCT).

On the 3rd October 2003, I was appointed by the NHSCT as a Nursing Assistant to work in the Emergency Department at Antrim Area Hospital. This role included assisting and supporting my nursing colleagues with direct patient care, ensuring availability of adequate stock and maintaining a clutter free working environment.

Career Milestones

In 2006, supported by my Ward Manager, I successfully completed a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) in Direct Care. This allowed me to enhance the delivery of person centred holistic care by carrying out procedures such as female catheterisation and venepuncture. Following the completion of this NVQ qualification I became a Band 3 Nursing Assistant.

In 2007, the NHSCT advertised three seconded positions to complete a four year Nursing Degree through the Open University. Along with two other colleagues we successfully secured the three places. The Open University Nursing Programme included nursing placements both in the acute hospital setting and in various community healthcare settings.

In December 2011, supported throughout by the NHSCT, I finally qualified as a Register Nurse . At the beginning of 2012 I commenced my career as a Band 5 Staff Nurse within the Emergency Department in the Northern Trust.

Four years later I remain in Antrim Emergency Department and following a recent successful interview will continue to progress my career as Band 6 Deputy Clinical Sister within the Emergency Department!
